TRANSMITTER SITE SAFETY TIPS AND CHECKLIST. 1. Arriving at the transmitter site: a) Set off lighting by remote control or infrared sensor. b) Observe the area, checking for intruders and animals. c) Check for proper operation of motion detectors. (These could set off a sounder inside building) d) deactivate land mines. 2. Entering the building. a) Alert the studio operator to your presence. b) Disarm any burglar alarms. c) Disable remote control. 1) Put in "bypass" or "local" mode. 2) If a dial unit, disconnect phone line. 3) Place a sign on the door or in vehicle to prompt re-enabling upon departure. 3. Ensure that transmitter and Phasor interlocks are properly set. 4. If work is to be done on the transmitter itself: a) Have a second person on site. b) Disconnect AC from transmitter. - Remember, there may be more than one circuit involved. c) Use the grounding bar on all capacitors and other HV locations. d) If weather is bad, disconnect feed to antenna. 5. Upon completion of work: a) Advise studio operator of return to programming. b) re-enable the remote control unit. c) reset burglar alarm. d) exit cautiously. 6. If you are blessed with a two way radio or cell phone, give an "All Clear" to the studio. Otherwise, they should be instructed to call you within a set period from the return to air. If no response, they should alert police.
